9U All Stars Gain Even More Experience At State Tournament in Okeeheelee

Updated Monday July 10, 2017 by Donnie Snyder.

Fresh off their stunning come from behind victory in Sarasota, the 9u All stars were looking to keep it rolling. Locked in an extra innings game on night one against Fossil Park, they pulled out the victory thanks to a perfectly executed squeeze bunt by Reid Yakes, bringing home Max Newman for the bottom of 7th win. In game 2, the bats came alive with Bode Lee exploding for 6 RBIs on 3 doubles and a solid start by Max Newman. However it wasn't easy as they watched their 12-3 lead get whittled down to 12-10 in the bottom of the 6th as pitch counts led to two non pitchers being pressed into service. With bases loaded and two outs, we turned back to Max Newman who induced the game ending ground out on a spectacular stop and throw by Jacob Kenna to Austin Ogles at first to end the game and send them to championship Sunday. On Sunday the entire lineup exploded hanging 13 runs on Seminole. Jackson Layner, Austin Ogles, and Max Newman all had multiple hits. Combine that with every outfielder making catches, including a spectacular diving effort by Daniel Smith and a great start by Tyler Wells and it was good enough for another win to send the team to Okeeheelee for states!
